Wrong-way driver hits trooper head-on on Interstate 71

Car crashes can range from the most minor to extremely severe cases. In the worst-case scenarios, drivers and their passengers are critically injured or killed. Even minor crashes can result in some injuries.

In Columbus, the heavy traffic makes it more likely for you to see a crash or to be involved in one. Take, for example, this collision that happened when a driver traveling the wrong way hit an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was dispatched to locate the driver, who they believed may have been impaired. They headed out on Interstate 71, but the trooper was soon hit by the wrong-way driver in the northbound lanes. Both vehicles caught on fire, threatening their lives.

Fortunately, a good Samaritan stopped to help, but they were also injured. They, along with the officer and the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, had to be rushed to the hospital. A medical helicopter arrived at the scene, but there was no further news on the victims' health.

When drivers go the wrong way on the highway, they're putting themselves and others at serious risk of harm. It's difficult for other drivers to see a wrong-way driver headed their way, and they may not realize that a wrong-way driver is on the road until it's too late.

People heading the wrong way on the highway may be confused, intoxicated or struggling with other issues, but they threaten the lives of everyone else on the roads as well as their own. If you're hurt by a wrong-way driver, don't be afraid to file a claim and hold them responsible.
